Lazy Runners

Lazy Runners

Lazy runners.

I think I could like running, the problem is, I am not very good at it. I am quite aware I am an extrovert who likes the company of others, and frankly, get bored of my own company out on a run!

Running has so many great health benefits for the body AND the mind, we don’t need to prove that to you. We appreciate running is not for every BODY, but some movement is always better than none. There is real truth in ‘move it or lose it’. If you want to give running a go, these groups are full of people to support you and give you advice.

Rebel Runners Maroochydore

On Wednesdays, THEY RUN! All levels of runners, joggers, and walkers are welcomed in this group who head out along the well-lit coastal path towards Alexandra Headland. They meet at 6 pm in front of Rebel Sports Maroochydore, on the grass beside the river. They do seem like one big running family. What a great idea to help you get over hump day!

Parkrun

This global initiative is fabulous. The idea, people get together every Saturday morning, all around the world, to walk/run/jog or skip 5km at their own pace in a picturesque setting. The course is marked out for you, and the organisers will time you if you like so you can measure your improvement. It is such a safe, inclusive, and friendly space. All abilities and ages are welcome, including the kids! Why not go as a family? Alana and I are proud to consider ourselves part of this community. Sign up online and print out your barcode, bring it along with a good attitude and comfortable clothing/shoes this Saturday. Here are all the locations we know of on the coast:

The Running Company

These guys meet weekly on Tuesdays at 5.30 pm for a 5:45 start at The Running Company Store in Maroochydore. The session involves running to Alex surf club and back at your own pace (3km break, 3km). All abilities are welcome and what a knowledgeable and friendly bunch they are. They even host some of the big running shoe brands so runners can test the latest kit and kaboodle. The Running Company also organises free trail runs around the sunshine coast for the keen beans out there who like to head off-road.
Drop in the store or check out their Facebook page:

Sunshine Coast Running Chicks

This one is just for the ladies (sorry boys!) This Facebook group was created back in 2014 to provide a platform for women to support, inspire, connect, and encourage each other’s running journey. If you are new to the coast, new to running, or need a training buddy, or a coffee-after-run friend these girls have got your back! Simply sign up and post on the page when, where, and how far/fast you want to go and link up with someone just like you!
