Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are made using 3D scanning technology combined with an individual orthotic prescription. At Sports and Structural Podiatry in Maroochydore, they are only recommended when your assessment shows they are appropriate for you, and they are usually one part of a wider treatment plan.

What they are

What are custom orthotics?

Custom orthotics are shoe inserts made for your feet. Unlike an off the shelf insole, the shape, materials and features are chosen by your podiatrist from your assessment findings, your foot structure, your activity level, your footwear and your goals. That might mean all-day comfort at work, support for sport, or managing a specific condition.

Who they may help

When orthotics may be part of your plan

  • Heel pain and plantar fasciopathy
  • Forefoot pain, including metatarsalgia
  • Achilles tendon and shin pain linked to how your feet load
  • Calluses and corns that keep coming back because of pressure
  • Foot, knee or lower back pain linked to the way you walk or run
  • Long hours standing at work

Not everyone needs orthotics. Many problems settle with exercise, footwear changes and load advice, and we will tell you if that is the case for you.

The process

How your orthotics are made

Getting custom orthotics usually involves four steps.

01

Assessment

We take a history and assess how your feet and legs move and load, and look at the footwear you use most.

02

3D scan

Your podiatrist positions your bare feet and scans them to capture their contours in a neutral, properly aligned position. The scan is quick and clean, with no messy plaster casting.

03

Prescription

Your podiatrist writes a prescription covering the shape, materials and features best suited to you. Your scan and prescription are then used to make orthotics for your feet.

04

Fitting and review

We fit your orthotics, check how they feel and perform, and make adjustments where they are needed.
