What it is
MLS stands for Multiwave Locked System. It is a form of photobiomodulation, which means using specific wavelengths of light on the tissues under the skin. MLS technology combines two near-infrared wavelengths, one continuous (808 nm) and one pulsed (905 nm), and synchronises them.
It is designed to help manage pain and inflammation and to support the body’s natural healing of soft tissue. Most patients find it comfortable, and it does not involve needles or medication.

Our laser
The clinic uses the ASA MLS Mphi 75.5, made by ASAlaser in Italy.
A multi-diode applicator on a fixed arm covers a larger area, such as the whole heel or the length of the Achilles tendon.
The handpiece and the hands-free applicator can run at the same time, so two areas can be treated in one session.
A fine attachment lets us focus on small, specific points.
Settings are chosen for the condition and tissue being treated, and can be repeated at each visit.

Who it may help
Laser therapy is not a stand-alone fix. Your podiatrist will tell you whether it is likely to suit your condition, or whether another approach would be better.

Your visit
Your podiatrist assesses your condition and explains whether laser therapy is suitable for you, and the expected benefits, possible risks and other options.
You and your podiatrist both wear safety glasses during treatment, as with all therapy lasers.
Treatment takes a few minutes per area. Most people feel nothing at all, or a mild, gentle warmth.
Laser therapy is usually given as a series of sessions over a few weeks. We review your progress as we go.
Part of a plan
Exercises that address the tissue that is struggling with load.
Guidance on shoes that suit your feet and the activities you do.
Made from a 3D scan of your feet and an individual prescription, where your assessment shows they are appropriate for you.
A hands-on therapy where gentle, precise pressure is used to move the joints of the foot and reduce joint restriction.
Your podiatrist will talk you through the options, expected benefits and any risks before you decide.
MLS laser therapy is non-invasive and generally well tolerated. There are some situations where it is not appropriate.
Laser therapy is not used over the abdomen or lower back during pregnancy, over an area with active cancer, or over a growth plate in children. Tell your podiatrist if you have a light sensitivity disorder or a pacemaker.
